How GFS Retention Works
The industry-standard approach to backup retention that optimizes storage while maintaining comprehensive data protection
The GFS Family Structure
Daily backups serve as “sons” (most recent), weekly backups as “fathers,” and monthly backups as “grandfathers” (most distant). Add hourly, quarterly, or annual backups for enhanced granularity.
Automated Rotation
The classic GFS scheme starts with a full backup on Monday as the first “father.” Subsequent daily incremental backups become “sons” until week’s end, when the final backup becomes the next “father.”
FIFO Rotation Scheme
“Sons” rotate using First In, First Out (FIFO)—the oldest backup is replaced with each new incremental backup. The month’s final backup becomes a “grandfather,” and “fathers” begin rotating according to FIFO.
Customer Stories
Trusted by Businesses, MSPs & Partners Worldwide
“I don’t think any platform can beat BDRSuite’s pricing. The cost is much lower than paying thousands per month for Datto, Kaseya, or Veeam”
“I tried Veeam and Microsoft’s built-in BU. It was OK, but price, performance, and features caused BDRSuite to win out!”
“It’s very cheap and it’s absolutely competitive. It’s very cheap compared to what I can charge my customers for the service.”
