Most security conversations start with one question: how do we keep attackers out? The more useful question, and the harder one, is what happens when something gets through.
That question was on our minds at CISO6 Mumbai 2026, organised by Transformation Studios on 9 October 2026 at Hotel Sahara Star, Vile Parle. The CISO6 Cyber Security Summit & Awards Series, which began in 2020, brings together CISOs, cybersecurity leaders and practitioners from across industries. Vembu joined the Mumbai edition to be part of those conversations.

Beyond Prevention
The CISO6 programme reflects how wide the CISO’s remit has become. It covers cloud and data centre security, Zero Trust, board-level perspectives, and future readiness. Underneath all of these sits one question: can the organisation keep operating and recover quickly, when prevention fails?
Ransomware that targets backups as well as production systems has made this practical rather than theoretical. Cyber resilience now depends on three things working together:
- Detecting threats early
- Responding with control
- Recovering data that has not been tampered with
How BDRShield and XDRShield Fit In
Vembu approaches this through two products with distinct roles.
XDRShield addresses threat hunting, investigation and response:
- Continuous endpoint monitoring across files, processes, registry, and network activity
- Structured, case-based investigations, with timelines, notes, and evidence in one place
- Controlled response actions, including host isolation, process termination, and backed by approval workflows and play books
- Activity logging, so every investigation step and response action is recorded and reviewable
BDRShield addresses data protection, and business continuity. The capabilities most relevant to these conversations are:
- End-to-End Data Encryption and Centralized Backup Management to secure backup data in transit and at rest while simplifying administration through a unified management console
- Ransomware-Resilient Immutable Backups with Retention Lock to safeguard backup recovery points against unauthorized modification, tampering, or premature deletion
- Air-Gapped and Offsite Backup Protection to maintain isolated recovery copies and strengthen business continuity and disaster recovery (BCDR) readiness
- Automated Backup Integrity Checks and Recovery Validation to verify backup reliability and improve restore readiness before a disaster strikes
- Rapid Recovery for Virtual Machines and Physical Servers to minimize downtime, accelerate service restoration, and support operational resilience
The two products serve different stages of an incident. XDRShield helps teams detect, investigate and contain a threat. BDRShield helps ensure the data behind critical operations is protected and recoverable. Together they address complementary parts of the resilience picture, though they are separate products.
The Takeaway
Prevention will always matter, but it cannot be the whole strategy. Organisations need to see threats sooner, respond in a controlled and accountable way, and know their recovery plan works before they test it under pressure.
