Our Founder & CEO, Sekar, spoke to The Hindu BusinessLine about a real shift for the company: deepening its focus on the Indian market after years where the majority of revenue came from outside India. Read the full interview here.

That shift means building the same strength at home that Vembu has already built abroad: local pre-sales support, local partners, local trust.

Backing the shift

To support this, Vembu is investing in strengthening pre-sales support, expanding marketing, and building out its network of channel partners across the country.

Sekar was direct about the reasoning: cyberattacks are rising, and awareness around ransomware has grown with them. Incidents that used to get written off as disk failures or user error are now taken seriously enough that companies are budgeting for prevention.

Why now: a market that’s catching up to the risk

India’s backup and disaster recovery market is estimated at ₹5,000 to 10,000 crore, part of a global market worth $10 to 12 billion growing at 20 to 25% a year, with India expected to grow even faster. Two forces are driving that:

  • Rising cyberattack and ransomware awareness, pushing backup from an IT afterthought to a boardroom risk conversation.
  • Compliance pressure, as data protection becomes a board-level priority rather than a “nice to have.”

What this looks like on the ground

This isn’t a single campaign, it’s a channel-first push: working closer with distributors, resellers, and MSPs to widen Vembu’s footprint across the country, backed by a structured onboarding layer of webinars, technical training, and certification tracks so partners can actually sell and support the product with confidence, not just resell it.

The takeaway

Real investment in local infrastructure, aimed at a market that’s finally taking data protection as seriously as the risk demands, isn’t a marketing headline. It’s Vembu building its presence in India on the ground, one partner and one enterprise deal at a time.
