In today’s technology-driven world, data backup and recovery solutions have become critical for businesses of all sizes. With the increasing number of data breaches and cyber-attacks, it has become more important than ever to have a reliable and efficient backup system in place.

Finding a reliable and efficient backup solution can be a daunting task. With so many options available in the market, each with its own set of features and functionalities, it can be difficult to distinguish one from another. However, BDRShield has emerged as a leading player in this space, with several key differentiators that set it apart from the competition.

Protect Your Data with BDRShield

In this blog post, we will explore the features that make BDRShield stand out from the competition and why it is the preferred choice for businesses looking for a robust, secure and cost-effective backup solution.

1. Comprehensive Backup Solution

BDRShield provides a comprehensive backup solution that covers all possible data sources. This means that whether you need to backup your virtual, physical, or cloud servers, endpoints, applications, or SaaS applications, BDRShield has got you covered.

2. Flexible Deployment

BDRShield offers a flexible deployment model that can be customized to meet the specific needs of businesses. The BDRShield backup server can be deployed on a variety of platforms, including Windows, Linux on VM, physical machines, public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP, etc), Docker, and NAS devices. This flexibility in deployment ensures that businesses can choose the most suitable option for their environment, infrastructure, and budget.

3. Simplified Centralized Backup Management

BDRShield offers centralized management for all workloads, including virtual, physical, cloud, and SaaS, through a web console. This centralized management provides businesses with complete access and control of their entire backup infrastructure, enabling them to manage from a single console.

BDRShield includes extensive reporting capabilities, giving businesses complete visibility into their backup infrastructure. Additionally, BDRShield’s email notification feature keeps businesses informed about backup status updates and issues, ensuring that they can take appropriate actions quickly.

4. Faster Recovery

With BDRShield, businesses can be assured of an RTO (Recovery Time Objective) of less than 15 minutes, ensuring quick and seamless recovery. BDRShield provides a range of recovery options, including entire machine recovery, instant VM boot, instant file and application item-level recovery, and failover/failback feature. These options ensure that businesses can recover their data quickly and efficiently, with minimal disruption to their operations.

5. Intelligently Resumes Image/File Backup after Interruption (Where It Left Off)

BDRShield supports the where-it-left-off functionality for image backup and file backup. BDRShield is the only backup software in the market that supports resuming image-level backups after any interruption.

BDRShield intelligently resumes backup from where it left off during the last schedule. So in the next run, BDRShield does not re upload the entire data and will continue to backup only the remaining data. This saves backup time and significantly reduces the data uploaded every time after an interruption and also reduces bandwidth usage.

6. A Better Approach for Reverse/Forward Incremental

The right consolidation method should help you reduce the merge time, save storage space, and achieve faster recovery. Understanding this, BDRShield uses its own file system – “VembuHIVE” to expose every incremental as a virtual full backup. i.e. restoration of a backup from any point-in-time will not require the merging of all the changes to a previous full backup. A full backup recovery point is available for every schedule during which an incremental backup was done. These backup versions can be instantly restored without any tedious merges.

With BDRShield, you need not select any consolidation method, all you have to do is simply select the backup type you want to run – Full, Incremental, Synthetic, etc and you will simply have a virtual full backup for all restore points and quickly recover from any point in time without involving merge time.

7. Data Retention and CleanUp Process Details

BDRShield stores data in small, manageable chunks. This allows BDRShield to easily access the specific data blocks it needs and quickly restore them without having to deal with large, cumbersome files. This unique method of storing data offers several benefits. One of those benefits is that when retention takes place, BDRShield simply marks the blocks that need to be removed and immediately deletes them during the cleanup process. This makes the retention and cleanup process more efficient and simpler.

8. BDRShield’s Approach to Backup Data Storage

BDRShield stores the backup data blocks in smaller chunks(each 100 MB by default but configurable) for both full and incremental backups. The metadata to access the blocks is stored in a relational database. This is a patent and unique approach that provides several benefits for our customers.

Some of the key use cases for this approach include:

Faster restores: BDRShield’s RDBMS-based approach allows for quick access and restoration of backup data blocks in emergency situations.

Ready-to-boot full virtual images: Customers can instantly boot/recover backed up VMs and physical machines into various virtualization platforms(VHD, VHDX, VMDK, IMG) without merging data.

Efficient retention/merge: BDRShield streamlines the retention process by removing specific deleted blocks and reconstructing the chunk file, saving time and resources.

No additional storage needed: BDRShield’s approach to merge/retention does not require extra storage space, reducing costs and overall TCO.

Reduced impact on storage hardware: BDRShield’s method does not require intensive IO operations during retention/merge, extending the life span of storage disks.

9. Store Primary Backup on Object Storage

BDRShield supports Object Storage to store primary backup data, secondary backup copies, and offsite backups. Object Storage supported by BDRShield are: Amazon S3, Azure Blob, Google Cloud S3 Compatible storage such as Wasabi, MinIO, Backblaze, etc. Recovering from object storage targets is similar to recovering from local storage targets and supports all major types of recovery, such as granular and complete VM restore.

10. Easy to Deploy and Manage

The BDRShield user interface is clutter free and user friendly. You can quickly & easily get adapted to the BDRShield software. The initial setup and configuration of BDRShield takes only less than 15 mins.

11. Remote Backup Over WAN

Remote backup is useful for businesses who need to backup their data remotely, such as to a cloud storage service. Remote backup involves transferring data over a WAN, which can sometimes be prone to interruptions. When the backup data transfer was interrupted for image-level backups, many backup vendors handle it by simply starting the full backup process over again from the beginning. This can be very time-consuming, especially for large backup processes.

To address this scenario, BDRShield has introduced a feature called “where it left off”, that allows the backup process to resume where it left off after an interruption, rather than starting over from the beginning. This can save a significant amount of time and make the remote backup process more efficient.

Overall, BDRShield’s remote backup capabilities are designed to make it easy and effective to backup your data, regardless of your location or where you need to backup to.

12. Reporting & Email Notifications

BDRShield provides a range of advanced reporting and notification features directly within the Backup Server console. These features include VM level reports, job level reports, recovery reports, offsite copy reports, and more. You can easily set up email notifications and integrate with third-party tools like ConnectWise without the need to purchase additional licenses or products. This can help you save on expenses and streamline your backup process.

This ensures that sensitive data is protected from unauthorized access, which is especially critical in cases where backup data is stored. Additionally, BDRShield provides backup data verification to ensure that the backup data is reliable and can be restored successfully. In the unfortunate event of a ransomware attack, BDRShield includes ransomware recovery, allowing businesses to restore their data quickly and efficiently.

14. Scalability

Whether you are a small business with a few servers or a large enterprise with thousands of virtual machines and physical servers, BDRShield can accommodate your needs. The solution can scale up or down depending on your infrastructure, making it easy for you to expand or reduce your backup and recovery requirements as your business grows. This ensures that you never outgrow your backup solution and can continue to protect your critical data effectively.
