While cautiously brooding over the impact of frictionless sharing in our lives, i felt it apt to borrow a leaf from the title of one of the greatest satirical movies of our times about a nuclear scare triggered by the actions of a crazy general. The nuclear apocalypse foreseen due to the policy of MAD (mutually assured destruction) bolstered by the buildup of missiles by proponents during the cold war formed the basis for that satire by Stanley Kubrick. The parallels couldn’t be more glaring if one were to comprehend the “MAD” scenario of universal information explosion that warring software proponents, assisting the senders and receivers of information in the tech eco-sphere, are perpetrating in today’s digital age. Maybe we are due for a movie satire on this theme featuring the doomsday effects of a paranoid faceoff between perennial information over-loaders like Facebook and Google.

Check out this graphic based on a study by BASEX on a typical day of a knowledge worker.

The key culprit for this unproductive waste is the Information overload manifest in many shades. Google search confounds us with a gazillion results, Tweets multiply around us like weeds on steroids, Facebook provides a wailing wall of endless updates, Emails make us bite more than what we can chew and mobile devices rings in all these miseries together wherever we go.

So what the heck do we do about it ?

PLAN A: Just fly past the cuckoo’s nest of digital noise and perch on the bandwagon of the Slow Internet movement.
